Competitions
Competitions can be a stressful time not only for the competitors but also for the parents. This is intended to give a brief insight as to what happens at competitions.

Routines
Each competitor is required to perform 2 routines, one set and one voluntary (vol). Each routine consists of 10 moves. In the early stages, or when a competitor has just changed grades, these are likely to be the same. Once a competitor gets to Grade 3 and above, if they are in the top 10 for their age group after they have completed their set and vol, they will also have to do one of their routines again in the final.

Attire
Girls must wear a club leotard, white ankle socks and optional trampolining shoes. Boys must wear a club leotard, white trampolining trousers, white socks and optional trampolining shoes. Club Leotards and accessories can be purchased from the club. Please see one of the coaches for details. Long hair must be tied back and all jewellery and body piercings must be removed.

Age Groups
A performer moves up an age group at the beginning of the year regardless of when in the year their birthday is. An under 9 performer will stay in that age group until the year in which they turn 9 when they will have to move up to under 11. Performers age at the 31st December of the year of competition.

Grades
The entry level is Grade 5 at which the trampolinist is expected to perform a tucked front somersault at the end of the routine. To move up to the next grade, competitors are required to achieve a specific (qualifying) score made up from the marks they achieve for their set and vol routines, plus the difficulty (tariff) of their vol, in competition.

Judging
Each routine is marked out of 10 = 1 mark for each move. Each judge looks at each move individually and gives a deduction (if necessary) depending on how good the move is, which varies from 0 – no deduction to 0.5 – scared you so much you had to close your eyes! When looking at the moves judges look for:- Straight arms and legs where appropriate Staying in the middle of the trampoline Consistent height Shapes properly formed (individually and in somersaults), Kick out in somersaultsPhasing – where in the bounce the move takes place. This is ‘form judging’. At the end of a routine, the performer is required to stand still for at least 3 seconds, if they do not do this they will incur an additional deduction from each judge.

Scores
Typically, there are 5 judges looking at ‘form’ as described above. Out of those scores, the highest and lowest are ignored and the middle three are added together. In a voluntary routine, there is also the score for difficulty (tariff) which is added on. The totals for the set and vol are then added together to achieve the final score.

Complications
If the performer does not land upright on the last move, then that move is discounted and the routine is marked out of 9. On the set routine, if the performer adds an extra bounce part way through, they are only marked on the moves they did before the extra bounce. On the vol routine, if the performer adds an extra bounce then they have done 11 ‘moves’ and lose one whole mark from each judge for the additional ‘move’. If at any point, the performer lands on one foot then the routine stops and is only marked out of the previous moves.

Punctuality
Competition organisers reserve the right to run up to 45 minutes ahead of schedule. When you are given the times that your child will be required to warm up, you should aim to arrive an hour or so before that time in case the competition is running ahead of schedule.

Club Clothing
Club clothing is available through Sylvia. Leotards and mens whites will need to be ordered at least three weeks before a competition, although some second hand ones may be available.

Club sweaters, t-shirts and leotards are available to all club members.

Orders for club t-shirts and sweaters will be placed when ten or more items have been ordered. This is a restriction placed on us by our suppliers but it allows us to keep our prices low. If you wish to place and order, please supply us with the competitor's name and size, clothing required and payment (cheques can be made payable to Alton Trampoline Club), in a sealed envelope.

The prices listed below were correct at the time of writing. We will endeavour to keep these as up to date as possible. We hope to have pictures for you soon!
